The Melcher-Dallas Public Library will be closed on October 22, 2024. 

This is to honor the memory of Charlene Fisher, wife of our Mayor Terry Fisher. 

Mrs. Fisher's service is planned for 10:30 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral home in Melcher-Dallas.

The Melcher-Dallas City Hall Office will also be closed on October 22, 2024.

 

In other news, a Craft With Me project is on the calendar.

The first session will be on November 1, 2024 from 1-3 p.m.  A second session is scheduled for

November 6, 2024 from 6-8 p.m.  We will be painting on wood rounds, with a Thanksgiving theme planned. 

Please advise Lori (641-947-6700) if you are planning to attend and which session you are planning to attend. 

Having a 'head count' will allow us to have the necessary supplies on hand for the project. 

This is a free project, but donations are accepted in order to purchase craft supplies for future projects.

Come Craft with Me! 

Mark your calendars for a Craft Night at the Library!  We are planning to make some fall pumpkin decorations!

We will be offering you a choice of day and time!  If you prefer to come in the afternoon, stop in on  October 11th , between 1-3 p.m.  If evening is better for you, stop in on October 16th, between 6-8 p.m. 

This is a free event, but if you have some fall foliage or other decorations you would like to add to your pumpkin, please feel free to bring them along!

Last Football Supper of 2024!

Melcher-Dallas pregame football suppers(free will donations)

are on the menu for home games!

The library will close at 2 p.m. on October 4th, to help prepare the Football Supper Entrees: 

chili or ham and beans with cornbread

Also serving: hot dogs, chili dogs, and beef-burgers, tea, lemonade, coffee, water, and deserts

serving between 5-7 p.m.  Pierschbacher Funeral home...previously the Methodist Church...

News of Interest to the Community!

 

• October 4, Alumni Pep Band Night 
• October 5, Melcher-Dallas Community Enrichment's Fall Festival.  Breakfast of biscuits and gravy served by the Dallas Christian Church will begin at 8 a.m. and until supplies are gone, in the park shelter house.   Activities and contests are slated between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Location of the event is the Melcher-Dallas 'square' park.  
• In conjunction with the Fall Festival, the Marion County Humane Society, will be hosting a fundraiser.  They would appreciate donations of various items used at the shelter and with your donation, you will have a chance to enter a drawing for a 'Thanksgiving Dinner for Eight'.  The meal is being donated by Northcote Meats, D&S Grocery, and Hometown Market and Deli.
• Melcher-Dallas Fire Department's Annual Fire Prevention Week Parade and Fund Raiser.  Sunday, October 6th,  beginning at 4 p.m. you can enjoy beef-burgers, chili, firemen's chili, potato soup, hot dogs and cinnamon rolls. The supper is a fund raiser for the Dollar for Scholars project, and all proceeds will be given to the project.  The meal will be on a 'free will offering' basis and Venmo will be available for your convenience. Take out meals will be available.  Parade will follow the supper, usually held at dusk. 
• Melcher-Dallas Trick or Treating on Wednesday, October 30th, from 5-7 p.m.
•   A post on Facebook indicated that the Melcher-Dallas Farmer's Market is closed until May, 2025.  However, there may be one or two venders in the park through October, with their wares.  Farmers Market every Tuesday, from 1-6 p.m. located on the Melcher-Dallas square (park) Questions may be addressed to Sara at 641-891-3369 or Mike at 641-891-2954
• The first Wednesday of every month is Pizza Lunch at the Senior Center.  Cost is $4, and sides are available to share.  11:30 a.m.  Please call the day before or by 10 a.m. the day of, so that they know how much pizza they need to order.  641-891-7009 0r 641-947-4911  You may bring a dish to share but it is not required.  Everyone is welcome to this monthly event.
• Food Trucks every Friday evening, from 5-8 p.m. located on the square.  This gives you a choice of supper with our local D&S Kitchen which is open till 8 p.m. and serving nightly specials until 7 p.m., supporting our Football Suppers that help support our library which are served between 5-7 p.m., Hooties and Casey's 

 

Melcher Dallas Notification/Alert System Launched

For several months now, City Staff have been working to set up a Notification/Alert System to allow better communication with our residents.  This system is hosted by Everbridge.  Now, critical alerts about our water supply, community events, or other important information can be sent out quickly so everyone can stay informed.  We have set up a web page “Stay Informed with Alerts” with links that will allow you to sign up and learn more information about the Notifications and Alerts.  There will be more information sent out with your water bill this month.  Please spread the word so your neighbors can stay informed as well.
